Progress

My friend Shelley recently posted this picture on Facebook. It's her grandad accepting well wishes on the occasion of his 90th birthday. I thought the picture and Shelley's caption just captured the joy of the day and the changes her grandfather has seen in his lifetime. She gave me permission to post it here:

You've seen a lot when you are 90!
From one of those big oak boxes on the wall
with a weird receiver and a shouty mouthpiece
(calls connected courtesy of the local operator)
to a cell phone bouncing calls off a satellite.
You see a lot of technology in ninety years.

Amazing to think of the changes that have happened in the last 90 years. When my grandmother died at 98 two years ago, she had gone from seeing horses on the road in front of her house, to a major shopping center. Congrats to your Dad.
